In Cake: A Love Story, we meet Jake McKallister and Casey Caldwell. I was drawn in and my tedious filing job went very smoothly after that! The short blurb about a rockstar with a tragic past was all I needed to know before I clicked on purchase, downloaded to my phone, got my earbuds in and began to listen. Audible had just emailed me a romance spotlight list and Cake: A Love Story was second on the list. A few weeks ago, faced with another tedious and mundane task at work, I opened up Audible to search for something that would make the task at hand a bit more bearable. ![]()

Absolutely no surprises along the way either, it is blatantly obvious who Lucy will end up with from the moment he's introduced, and every other plot point is predictable and cloying. As well as novels she writes short stories, and articles for various magazines and other publications. I really have trouble believing this is written by the same author as Last Chance Saloon and Sushi for Beginners, as this book is just riddled with horrible characters, tedious dialogue and a plot that is shallow at best. Lucy Sullivan is Getting Married has been made into a sixteen part television series, Watermelon was a made for TV movie in 2003, and Last Chance Saloon was filmed in French Au Secours J’ai Trente Ans was released in 2004. The protagonist, Lucy, is whiny, obnoxious and very faux-modest, and the dialogue is often either stilted or irritating ( take for example the constant need to address a person by name at the beginning or end of EVERY SINGLE SENTENCE.)
